Whey, isolate or vegan: which protein to choose
Concentrate, isolate, hydrolysed, plant-based. The real differences, without the marketing.
Protein powders are not magic: they are a convenient way to reach your daily protein intake when you can't get there with food. The choice depends on three things: lactose tolerance, budget and time of day. If you want a precise number, work out your requirement with our protein calculator.
Whey concentrate (WPC)
These are the most widely used and offer the best value for money. They generally contain 70-80% protein and a small amount of lactose and fat. If you digest milk well, they are the most sensible choice: Whey Titans Zero 2 kg and Premium Whey Protein 2 kg are the two most popular value sizes; Whey Pro 1 kg is ideal for trying it out.
Whey isolate (WPI)
Filtered more thoroughly: 85-90% protein, almost zero lactose, fat and sugar. Ideal when cutting or if lactose bothers you. Take a look at Iso Touch 86% 2 kg, Iso Pro 1.8 kg or Premium Protein Iso Zero, with no sugar.
Hydrolysed
Protein "pre-digested" into smaller fragments: it is absorbed quickly and is very easy to digest. This is the premium tier, like Hydrotouch Diet Whey.
Plant-based
Pea, rice or soy isolates, enriched with essential amino acids to complete the profile. Real Vegan Amino Plus is a 90% plant isolate designed specifically for those who don't consume milk protein.
How much and when
One serving (25-30 g) after training or as a snack is enough for most people. What counts is the daily total. If you are starting from scratch, the Mass Starter bundle brings together protein, creatine and a shaker at 25% off. You can find all our protein here.
